White Water Rafting: Pacuare River Camp Class III-IV (2 days/1 night) Tara No.157 A trip of pure magic, unsurpassed beauty, exhuberant wildlife and ravishing rapids on one of the few protected tropical wilderness rivers. Early morning pick-up at your hotel in San José by your bilingual river guide. En route to the put-in point stop for breakfast. Continue to Tres Equis (total driving time 3½ hours), where you can either walk for 45 minutes through the forest or switch to a 4x4 shuttle to the put-in. After an orientation and safety talk proceed down the river. Lunch on the river bank. River time about 2½ hours. Mid-afternoon arrival at private camp with time to relax and enjoy the rainforest. Next morning after breakfast and local hikes proceed down river. Short walks and picture stops available. Lunch on river bank. River time about 4 hours. Mid-afternoon take-out and return to San José. VOLCANOES, MOUNTAINS & BEACHES
Visiting San Jose, Arenal, Monteverde & Playa Tambor
12 days/11 nights Day 01 MIAMI-SAN JOSE: Departs U.S.A for San Jose, Costa Rica. Arrive and transfer to Hotel Barcelo San Jose Palacio. (5 stars). Orientation and briefing on next days activities. Day 02 SAN JOSE-ARENAL Scenic drive with your tour guide to Arenal Volcano, stop en route at La Paz Waterfall Gardens for an up close view at a system of 5 different waterfalls and also for lunch. After lunch continue to Arenal. Dinner and overnight at the Arenal Observatory Lodge or similar. From the Observatory, which is situated only 1.6 miles south of the volcano, visitors have an impressive view of this "giant which rumbles" and erupts with spectacular displays of vapor and lava. The Observatory is the only one situated within the Arenal Volcano N.Park, which encompasses thousands of acres of pristine rainforest and teems with tropical birds and wildlife. (B,L,D)
Full day trip from the Observatory Lodge to the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge which involves a 2 hour drive through farms and citrus groves to thetown of Los Chiles where you board a riverboat for an exciting trip down the Rio Frio to the refuge of Caño Negro. Lunch picnic style on the River Banks then return to dock for drive back to the Lodge. (B,L,D) Day 04 ARENAL-MONTEVERDE Next morning enjoy a hike to a nearby waterfall and a close-up exploration of a lava flow. Mid-morning departure, driving around Lake Arenal continue on to visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, one of the most diverse and richest tropical cloud forests in the New World. It is best known as home to the Resplendent Quetzal but has hundreds of other birds, mammals and plant species. Overnight in Monteverde at Hotel Fonda Vela or similar.(B,D) Day 05 MONTEVERDE Morning hike thru the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve viewing the misty forest with its dense vegetation and majestic trees. In the afternoon, you may go back to the Reserve with your guide or if you prefer you can wander out on your own to enjoy one of the many optional activities available in the area. Overnight Fonda Vela or similar. (B,D) Day 06 MONTEVERDE-SAN JOSE On the final day visit the Ecological Farm a lower elevation belt of regenerating forest where you will have the chance to see a different variety of plants and animals like the 2 toed Sloth, Coati and monkeys.
