THE BAY ISLANDS-ROATAN

Thirty five miles north of Honduras’Caribbean coast lies the submerged Sierra de Omoamountain range, fountainhead to the verdant jungle islands of Roatan, Guanaja, Barbareta, Utila, and a jeweled patchwork of smaller islands and cays. The Honduran Bay Islands, with their friendly mix of English speaking islanders, have long been a favorite, if somewhat secret, hideaway to privy scuba divers, sailors and outdoorsmen. And while the islands now have daily jet service and an excellent selection of small first rate vacation facilities, don’t look for the casinos, discos and shopping bazaars of other "high profile islands".
